Android 4.1.2 source code released, rolling out to ... - Know Your Cell

In a statement posted to the Android developer building group, Google software engineer Jean-Baptiste Queru announced that the Android 4.1.2? source code has finally been released to AOSP. The update is minor adding several key performance enhancements and bug-fixes.

News of Android 4.1.2 being pushed out comes hot on the heels of last nights possible LG Nexus leak. The handset, which surfaced in leaked photographs, was running Android 4.1.2 when snapped. I find it pretty funny that this new code was released just a day after the photos came out. Coincidence? Maybe.

For those wondering, Android 4.1.2 still falls under the Jelly Bean umbrella. Android 4.1.1, which was released this summer, included a great deal of new features, including speed enhancements and improved search capability. The update also added Google Now, Google's answer to Siri. 4.1.2 simply aims to make things more stable.

An Android 4.1.2 update is also pushing out the Google Nexus 7? right now which adds the fixes as well as home screen rotation. It is unclear, however if home screen rotation will now be present on all 4.1.2 devices, or just the Nexus 7. Don't be surprised, though, if your Galaxy Nexus home screen rotates too.

Google also added new proprietary binaries for the Google Nexus 7 and Samsung Galaxy Nexus to AOSP. Android 4.1.2 Binaries for the Nexus S and Motorola XOOM should be coming later this week.
