National Sangria Day: 5 Low-Calorie Sangria Recipes - Shape ...

Happy National Sangria Day! Though we're puzzled as to why this summery drink is celebrated in December, we're not going to argue with having a glass?as long as we keep the calories in check.

While sangria often contains 300 calories and 25 grams of sugar per serving, it?s easy to give this pitcher cocktail a healthy makeover, as these tasty versions prove.

Louiseville Sangria
This recipe gets a bit of smoky heat from metabolism-boosting chipotle peppers and clocks in at just 185 calories.

Boxed Wine Sangria
Go the eco- and budget-friendly route with this recipe using wine from Tetra Paks, which have half the carbon footprint of wine bottles. And at 98 calories, it's also waistline-friendly.

Bottled Eppa Superfruit Sangria
There's no need to slice and chop if you're feeling lazy. Try Eppa?s certified-organic Superfruit Sangria at just $12 a bottle and 120 calories a glass.

Green Sangria
Skip traditional red and the slightly less common white and opt for a refreshing green mix of apple, lime, kiwi, cucumber, and mint for 115 calories. Bonus: It won?t stain your teeth no matter how much you have.

VOGA?s Holiday Sangria
Approximately 150 calories, 18g carbs, 12g sugars
Serves: 15

Ingredients:
3 to 4 fresh figs, sliced (or 1 cup dried figs)
1 gala apple, sliced?
1 pear, sliced
1 cup of cherries
2 to 3 oranges, sliced (not peeled)
1 cup orange juice
1 cup brandy
1/2 cup triple sec
2 bottles VOGA Italia Merlot (or VOGA Italia?s Dolce Rosso for a sweeter sangria)
Orange peel, for garnish (optional)

Directions:
Combine all fruit in a glass pitcher and slowly pour in orange juice, brandy, triple sec, and wine. Cover and chill from two to 24 hours?the longer, the better! Stir gently and serve over ice. Garnish glasses with orange peel.
